In the event a member is unable to attend the monthly membership meeting, the member is to send an email with their name and why they are unable to attend the meeting. It is greatly appreciated when the Excuse Committee is notified in advance of an absence for an extended amount of time; please send monthly emails notifying us of your absence. The members of the Excuse Committee include Chair Sheila Swanson sswanso1@wcccd.edu: Committee Members- Vernessa Coleman vcolema1@wcccd.edu, and Phyllis Finch pfinch1@wcccd.edu. Please contact anyone of your Excuse Committee Members in the event of an absence from a Membership Meeting by email.

The Attendance Rules

According to Article VI, Section 1 of the Local 1796 By-Laws: All members of this Local Union holding an elective position are required to attend:

(1) (1) Two out of every three consecutive membership meetings in each calendar quarter, unless officially excused for cause by the Local Union Excuse Committee. (2) Two of every three consecutive meetings other than membership meetings expected of their respective office or position, unless officially excused for cause by the Local Union Excuse Committee. (3) Failure of any elected official to comply with the above attendance rules shall result in automatic removal from their respective office or position, and they shall not be permitted to run for any elective office for the balance of the term of office from which they were removed, except as a delegate to the International Constitutional Convention.

There shall be a board of three (3) members established for the purpose of passing judgment on excuses, the three-(3) members of this Board to be appointed by the President of the Local Union. Any affected member shall have the right to appeal the decision of this Board to the next general membership meeting.
